Honda has revealed its CR-Z Concept 2009 sports hybrid car before its Tokyo preview. This production version of Honda’s CR-Z compact-hybrid was one of the highly anticipated releases scheduled to debut at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show. The sporty, two-passenger, CR-Z hybrid is planned to be produced in Japan early next year.
The CR-Z Concept was revealed at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show for the first time. Also, there was a preview of the new hybrid sports-car that Honda plans to launch in the next year. It is going to become realistic through this latest version of the 2009 concept and is certainly matching in look and feel to the production version. Though no details of the concept hybrid have been released ,the form feature appears to be a cross between the ’80s CRX subcompact and the Honda Insight hybrid. The images give the impression that the interior and the minor details such as bumpers & lights resemble the production version items more closely than those of the 2007 CR-Z Concept.

The production version of the CR-Z is designed as a spiritual successor of the original Honda CRX. Under the hood, there will be a compact, four-cylinder engine. It will be matched to an electric motor and displacing less than 2.0 liters. It will also feature Honda’s proprietary Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid technology that is a part of all the other hybrid vehicles as well. The power generated by the car should be close to 140 hp, with drive sent to the front-wheels via a CVT. A six-speed, manual gearbox will be an optional feature for all driving enthusiasts requiring more entertainment than the CVT.

The 2009 Tokyo Motor Show will kick-off on October 24. Along with the who’s who of the automobile industry, a lot of Japanese domestic-market vehicles are gearing up for the auto extravaganza. Therefore, Honda will be hoping to make an impact on the show that takes place right in the auto-maker’s back yard with its CR-Z Concept 2009 sports hybrid.
